About the artist

From an early age I have been exposed to all kinds of crafts. From embroidery, knitting, paper art, miniature dollhouses, and everything in between. In my teens I'd liked to design my own clothes, and made some garments on the sewing machine. I loved making my own statement pieces! Maybe I could go to a designers school. But that didnt happen. I became a florist instead. It is clear that since I came into contact with knitting again years later, I cound't stop any more.

I still knew some of the basics, but it had sunk quite deeply. By just doing it, and knitting my way through, I was teaching myself with the help of You-Tube, I began to learn the basics and some techniques. Stitch by stitch I have become wiser and now I have gained some extensive knowledge. By practicing with the cheapest yarns first, I find out what works and what doesn't work. How does a yarn behave? How does a certain structure feel knitted? For example, acrylic yarns compared to real wool? How do you keep your knitted garment beautiful for longer? And what is your ecological footprint when using all these different yarns? All the knitting I did for other people in my previous company Mientjes breidomein has contributed to it.

After knitting for a few years, that's where the crochet hook came into play. And I have to say, this combo is fantastic! Many of you will have the same or just a passion for only knitting or crocheting. I do notice that knitting is close to my heart. There is so much possible! Most of my designs are made with durable yarns.

What I find so beautiful about knitting, everything can be knitted. Everything is simply possible! And when I realized that, my world became even bigger. I started designing..  It was always there! Whatever I made, I always adapted everything to my liking. So, one thing lead to more and it didn't take long before my first design was born..

I dont't think I have to tell you why I knit. As so many of you have discovered the benefits of knitting after a long day at work our just to relax your mind. I love picking up my needles and knit away! It's my way of clearing my head. A moment of creation, meditation and reflecting on live it self..
